Take my Legacy, You are our new Generation

Needles, strings, and bobbins

I hear the call of the soft humm

I feel the cotton between

my itching fingers
Combine them together

Go slowly at first, if you press to hard

You might break the needle
Sixth generation through and through

Making clothes, fixing holes

This table has seen many of years

Families have enjoyed my labor of love

Now I pass my torch on to you
Our new generation; that is you

I give you my tools that I used long ago

Needles, string and bobbins
I pass to you our legacy

That was passed down to me

This is your badge of honor

This runs through your bloods
Get ready to hear your call

Get ready to pick up the cloth

Measure, cut and sew
You; the seventh generation

Take your legacy, my legacy

To thrive and sew away

This is my father’s sewing machine that he had when he first started his business. When he moved to his new place he did not have the space for it so he asked me if I would want it. He is a 6th generation taylor in his family, when I was a kid I asked him to show me but he told me that he wanted something bigger for me. Now that I have his sewing machine and I pretty much have a lot of time on my hands, I am going to learn how to sew a few things.. Need to start off slow before I get to the big projects Insha’Allah.

Wish me luck!!
Until Next Time,

LK

  1. Wow, that’s wonderful. I wish I had learned how to make slippers from my grandmother before she died. She would make them for everyone in the family – she had 11 kids – big big family πŸ™‚

Great memories that will never go away πŸ˜‰

Hopefully I’ll be able to be a proficient Taylor, I’m starting off late in the game but as long as I can take care of my lil family I’ll be happy ()
