Ramadan and my new goals

Ramadan is almost here!!

About a month to go and our yearly religious holiday begins.  We will fast not only physically but spiritually as well.

This Ramadan I will put only two goals for myself to complete:

1. Pray my daily prayers more often

2. Read the Quran more often and reflect on it. (Journalist my thoughts and my interpretation of what I read)

In the past I had months or weeks that I was doing good then all of a sudden I just stop. Then it takes me awhile to get back to it. I want that roller coaster to stop.

I know a couple of years ago I started praying for Ramadan then I slowly continued to do it even afterwards. I even started to wear the hijab because I thought it didn’t make sense to keep putting it in for my prayers.

Once we moved locations I just stopped wearing the hijab and then I slowly stopped stopped going to the Friday prayer at the mosque and praying at home.

This Ramadan I am hoping to find a mosque close to us so I can go to the Friday prayers and to also find a mentor or at least a group of Muslim sisters for support. I used to have a mentor that we would meet a couple times a month and she would put small goals for me. She encouraged me when I felt I was failing.  Maybe with a closer mosque I can find some sisters that we could support each other… Not all mosque have these types of programs so I know it will be difficult to find

I already went to one close by and well it’s great for the men but unfortunately for us women our space is very small, we can’t see the imam when he is speaking. Well it’s through a television but there is no closeness or unity that I felt at my mosque.

I have one more mosque to go to that is a bit farther then the one I looked at last but still closer then my mosque. It seems that they are a bigger facility and the website they have it seems that they might be a bit more into having programs for sisters. It seems that they are a community that has unity not separation.

So today since I haven’t been able to sleep I have been thinking about this. Since next week I will have my own car I will be able to go out a bit more and explore different mosque around the area.

Insha’Allah I find one I feel that I belong too. I know that in the Quran it states that we the female gender are not obligated to go, we can pray at home and read a part of the Quran to satisfy the Friday prayer. I like going to the Friday prelates though..

So for this Ramadan I am hoping to be able to fast both physically and spiritually. Insha’Allah I get the guidance and the strength to complete and continue my prayers and spiritual readings.

For my Muslim Sisters and Brothers out there… If you set a goal for Ramadan what would it be??

The Few That have been Forgotten

Now I have always put on here that we should all be more human. We need to sympathize to other culture and people. If the media protrays something bad to not believe it. I know in life there are good and bad. Just because one individual or group are doing or acting in a negative matter, I push to say that not all of the people from that background are the same.

Why do I say this… Remember these opinions I posted awhile back:

1 – A society of negative events
2 – Its time to act

And other opinion’s I have posted on here when it comes to injustices and judging a group by a few bad seeds.

I was on facebook today and I happened to come across this aritcle that I really liked. It was published online by Washington Post. It talks about how  A few Muslims, decided to join or help the Allied forces in War World II. These were exceptional beings that either got captured or killed by doing what All of us should try to do more oftern. Speak up, help save lives.

This article shows me that there are Muslims out there that are following Allah (SWT), they understand his word and are living it not preaching it. These are woman and men alike, how I wish that the Media would publicize these type of stories more often. I’m not saying that we should try to eliminate all negative media but we should also have a balance. Especially when the world are targeting a religious group and for lack of better words are “crucifying” them because there are no positive views out there.

I know that my little post won’t be read by many and the chances for it to get on the reader or to be reblogged are even less. My opinion only truly matters to me, will it impact the world I doubt it. At least I know that I am doing my best to shine a light on a group and helps that group. Hopefully my whisper will eventually turn into a roar where peoples mindset will start looking at a certain group in a diffrent way.

If you would like to know about thses exceptional Muslims, that made a difference to many Jews (which supposevily Muslims and Jews hate each other), and other innocent people please clisck here. My respect goes out to these Muslims, and their families. They are the true Jihadist, they are the ones that live Allah’s (SWT) word.

To me this is an example of how not only Muslims should act but how ALL humans should act.

Isn’t it the Same?

I form a cross

I join my hands

I bow down or

I get on bended knees

I wear a veil

I wear a hijab

Do you care how I dress

We speak in different languages

We praise you in different ways

Does it matter which is the first one

You created free will

You created our faith

Does it matter which religion we follow

I implore you

I beg you

I pray to you

Help your creations

Guide us to your path

Let us know that no matter what

Is all one in the same

The Paradise that we all seek

Is you, in all your Glory

Here is a link that I thought was beautiful. here us a man that with a bit of research was able to grasp the essence of what Islam is.

This is what I pray Muslims and Non-Muslims should try to learn. True acceptance, patience and Respect for someone else.

Hopefully you all enjoy this video as I did.

To the people that lost their lives in Paris and other parts of the world because of Terrorist and extremist we have you in out dua’s.

May Allah (SWT) punish the ones that are trying to hold the world hostage . May Allah (SWT) guide us to his path of true brotherhood for each other. May Allah (SWT) guide us to a better path for unity. AMEEN

Quote from the Holy Quran, Al-Hujuraat (49:12)

O you who believe! Avoid much suspicions, indeed some suspicions are sins. And spy not, neither backbite one another. Would one of you like to eat the flesh of his dead brother? You would hate it (so hate backbiting). And fear Allah. Verily, Allah is the One Who accepts repentance, Most Merciful.

A verse that can really make us think… Why is it that even though we know its wrong we still gossip and talk behind other peoples back. Here is a verse from the Holy Quran, in Allah’s words to not do this. Still most (yes I will include myself) of us do this, some more then others.

When it is done by family it hurts worst. See people think that you don’t understand them or realize the person they are when they gossip to you. Yes I have had plenty of people that gossip to me not with me.

In them doing that I realize that when my back is turn most likely they are doing it to me. When others ask me my opinion of others or to express my opinion of others decision I try my best to watch my wording. I have never intentionally talked about a person without the person that is being talked about knows how I feel about them.

Yes that is the type of person I am. If I feel something about a person, they know it because I have already expressed it. If I express those same feelings or words to someone else I truly feel that I am not gossiping or backbiting.

Reading this verse makes me realize that even if the person knows how I feel I still do not have the right to tell someone else unless they are present.

Lets take this verse and reflect truly weigh our thoughts when talking to others..

Quote from the Holy Quran, Al-A’raaf (7:58)

Waalbaladu alttayyibu yakhruju nabatuhu biithni rabbihi waallathee khabutha la yakhruju illa nakidan kathalika nusarrifu alayati liqawmin yashkuroona

The vegetation of a good land comes forth (easily) by the Permission of its Lord, and that which is bad, brings forth nothing but a little with difficulty. Thus do We explain variously the Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) for a people who give thanks.

When Good Service Turns Bad, You WILL Lose My Buisness

So I know I usually don’t rant or rave about businesses of any type. I do sometimes review apps that I like especially when it has to do with writing, reading and editing. This however is an entirely different industry that I will be talking about.

There is a local grocery mart in our area that hubby and I frequented for all of the years that we have been married. Now this grocery mart is a local mom & pop type and hubby has been going to it sense he was a kid.

Now As you all already know I am Muslim so I mostly heat Halal meats (kosher). Even when hubby and I lived 30 miles away from this grocery mart we still made the drive. Why? I can give you very short and brief reasons.

1. It did not smell
2. Butchers know English and Spanish
3. Butchers know how to cut the meats in ANY style you want
4. Cashier (female) was very respectful, and went beyond to give you excellent customer service
5. If you needed a speciality meat or whole animal (goat, turkey, hen, duck etc) They were really good at getting it the next day.

I can go on and on about the reason’s that I love going to this place. Now though, it SUCKS! I’m sorry but its true. Through out the years owners have changed. The lady that was there before went back to school and got married. Now I don’t know if these are new owners or if it is her husband or sister but this is what is now wrong with this grocery mart.

1. Seasoning packets ( Middle Eastern type) are not stocked, even the common ones
2. The meat section smells and does not look clean
3. Men that work there are either rude or ignore the Women consumers
4. Line for the meat section takes 45 to 1 hour to order ( this does not include wait time for the meat being prepared)
5. Cashier lines are 1 hour if not more
6. The Cashier will slam your receipt and change if you are a woman and they do not even say Salam to you when you say it to them.
7. Meat prices have gone immensely high!

This list could go on…

This does not mean that I am not willingly to support our local businesses here, but I do expect a level of respect and curtesy when I am PAYING for that said business service or products.

I have been hunting for a new Halal grocery store and I have found one. It is called Restaurant Depot, basically this is like Costco but ONLY services BUSINESSES. If you are a regular consumer as hubby and I they do give you a one day pass. I love the fact that this place sells some Halal meat by the bulk especially what hubby and I eat more often.

I also found another local shop that is Hindu so they only sell veggies and Middle Eastern spices. Now I know where I can go and by my spices and buy my meat. We bought over 80 lbs of different meat for WAY cheaper then the local grocery mart we used to go to.

Looking at Amazon I will pay almost the same exact amount on spices then going to the store.. I will probably be saving a couple of bucks since I have amazon prime…

Basically all I am trying to say is if you own a business remember that your customers are the ones that KEEP you in business. You don’t need to “brown nose” (for a lack of a better word) them but you do need to make sure that they feel welcomed and that their shopping experience is at a level they will want to keep going back.
